Research Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a Research-Oriented Mechanical Engineer to drive research, development, and technology innovation. This role is highly analytical and exploratory, with an emphasis on patent engagement, data analysis, and translating research findings into protectable and scalable engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct fundamental and applied mechanical engineering research to develop novel concepts and architectures.
  • Perform technical investigations, feasibility studies, and trade-off analyses based on experimental and simulated data.
  • Analyze datasets from experiments, and field data to extract insights and guide design decisions.
  • Work in collaboration with IP counsel to generate invention disclosures and actively contribute to patent drafting.
  • Develop analytical, numerical, and simplified physics-based models to support research hypotheses and technology validation.
  • Document research findings in internal technical reports, white papers, and invention records.
  • Collaborate closely with system, electrical, thermal, and mechanical engineers to mature research concepts into development-ready solutions.
  • Monitor relevant academic literature, industry trends, and competitor IP to identify opportunities for innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Strong foundation in mechanics, materials, thermodynamics, and/or fluid dynamics.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering research, concept development, or advanced R&D.
  • Strong data analysis skills using tools such as Python, MATLAB, or similar.
  • Ability to structure ambiguous problems and define clear research methodologies.
  • Excellent technical writing skills with the ability to clearly document and justify inventions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience contributing to patents, invention disclosures, or IP strategy.
  • Experience working in early-stage technology development or deep-tech startups.
  • Background in energy systems, batteries or power electronics.
  • Experience bridging research and product development environments.
